A killer.sh alternative for CKA, CKAD and CKS practice
killer.sh is the simulator most Kubernetes candidates know, because two sessions come free with every CKA, CKAD and CKS exam purchase. It is good practice. The catch is quantity: two sessions, 36 hours each. Prepium gives you weeks of graded practice on real clusters before you spend them.
killer.sh vs Prepium at a glance
| killer.sh | Prepium | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Two sessions included with a Linux Foundation exam purchase. Bought separately: $39.99 for two sessions of one simulator. | $39 per certification for 30 days of access. One payment, no subscription. A single CKA full-exam attempt is $10. |
| Full exam simulations | 2 per purchase (simulator A and B, 17 questions each). Extra sessions $9.99 each within 12 months. | 5 timed full-exam attempts per pass, drawn from 5 fixed CKA mocks (3 for CKAD, 3 for CKS). |
| Access time | 36 hours per session, counted from activation whether you use it or not. | 30 days from the moment you activate, so you can buy now and start later. |
| Practising one topic | Sessions are whole simulators; you work inside the full question set. | Unlimited single-task labs during your access: pick one task (RBAC, etcd, NetworkPolicy...) and repeat it until it is fast. 29 CKA, 27 CKAD and 16 CKS tasks, plus scenario variants. |
| Grading | Score based on successful subtasks. | Per-check results with partial credit, saved to a permanent attempt history with readiness tracking per exam domain. |
| Help when stuck | Detailed solutions for every question. | Hints and full solutions, plus AI Lab Coach in single-task labs, which reads your commands and lab state to explain what to fix. |
| Free option | The two sessions bundled with your exam. | CKA: six free graded labs, five sessions every week. CKAD and CKS: one selected free lab each week. Every task brief is public. |
| Environment | Real environment in a remote desktop that closely mirrors the exam UI. | Real Kubernetes clusters created for you alone, reached through a Linux desktop in the browser. |
Is killer.sh enough to pass the CKA?
For some candidates, yes. If you already run Kubernetes daily, two sessions in the final week may be all the calibration you need. If you are newer to the exam domains, two sessions are rarely enough repetitions: you find your weak spots in session A, and you have one session left to prove you fixed them. That is the gap Prepium is built for.
Should you use both?
Yes, and that is what we recommend. Your killer.sh sessions are already paid for with the exam, so use them as a final check. Spend the weeks before on repetition:
- Weeks before the exam: drill single tasks on Prepium by domain until the commands are automatic, and watch your per-domain readiness climb.
- Two to three weeks out: sit Prepium's timed mock exams to build speed and triage under the clock.
- Final week: run killer.sh session A, review, fix the gaps, then run session B.
Which certifications does this cover?
Both platforms cover CKA, CKAD and CKS. Prepium also has hands-on RHCSA labs on real virtual machines and explained question banks for KCNA, KCSA, NSE4 and Security+. killer.sh additionally covers LFCS and CNPE, which Prepium does not.
